I'm a huge fan of fringe and have been spreading the word of what a great show it is. But I'm confused on one thing. I've been told that unless you have Nielsen box it doesn't matter if you watch it live or dvr it and watch it later. Is this true?. Also please let me know of any other way to help keep this show on is there a way to email or mail to people in charge of deciding rather this show lives or dies? Thank you.

I’m gonna open this up to any FRINGE fans out there, as I love the show, but am not familiar with how exactly Nielsen ratings work. I did, however find some info on your question in the comments of this post. It was mentioned there more than once that DVR’d re-watches count as a viewing in ratings. So basically, watch it live, then re-watch your recording of that episode within three days of recording it, and each viewing will count as a separate viewer. The catch being, you can’t fast-forward through commercials when you watch the recording (something about helping out the advertisers). I hadn’t heard about the whole Nielsen box rule, and have never known anyone to have one; according to one comment there’s only like 50,000 some odd boxes out there, so…that’s not really a good ratings system if true.

In terms of whom to contact, I’m not the best person to ask this, sorry. I’m not as “involved”. If you’re on Twitter, help it trend on Friday nights. There are a few sites that get certain hashtags going every week. I know the executive producers are on there, too.

EDIT: another reply for you in the notes, anon.

I love Lost, and it's the absolute best show I've ever seen. Now that I'm finished watching it (I watched all seasons online last month), I have nothing else to watch. Any shows you would recommend? New or old. Doesn't have to be similar to Lost, but I want something really good, that would keep my attention like Lost did.

I’ve got a few faves. In no particular order…

FRINGE (FOX) — I watched this from the beginning, and boy has it picked up (especially during season two). It’s definitely gotten better with age, with the fourth season premiering September 23rd. Wouldn’t be surprised if you’re already watching this show; LOST fans kind of flocked to it.

Falling Skies (TNT) — Produced by Speilberg with Noah Wyle (E.R.) as the lead. Chronicles the lives of survivors of an alien invasion six months after the attack. The season finale is this weekend, and it’s two hours. It’s got the same camaraderie feel of LOST’s first season. Speaking of which…

The Walking Dead (AMC) — Zombies! Hurrah! A group of survivors tries to make it in a world post-zombie apocalypse. (I have a thing for post-apocalyptic type shows.) This became an instant fave after its six-episode first season. Who knew a show about zombies could have so much depth/character development/sentiment. Season two premieres October 16th.

The Killing (AMC) — This one’s a crime drama. It’s dark (literally and figuratively), emotional, and once you’ve seen one episode, you’ll wanna watch the rest back to back. Also renewed.

Mad Men (AMC) — Pretty popular and for good reason. It’s definitely got style. It’s smart and subtle. Fifth season premieres next March, I believe, so you’ve got time to get caught up.

Torchwood: Miracle Day (Starz) — I just got into this. It’s actually the fourth season of the British series, Torchwood (which is a spin-off of Dr. Who). Easy enough to follow along even without having watched the first three seasons. Basically one day, every human on Earth stops dying, so the Torchwood team investigates it.

Lastly, some favorite half-hour comedies:

Communtiy (NBC) — This cast is just so damn funny together.

Archer (FX)  — Animated. Hilarious and raunchy.

Modern Family (ABC) — A sweet, wholesome family comedy. I really do love this show.

These are just the shows that I’ve watched, loved, and am caught up with. (So wishing I could ad V to this list, but it was cancelled.) Though I haven’t seen Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, or True Blood, I’d add those to the list too, as I’ve heard good things about all three. Hopefully this list helps. Happy watching!

**ETA: Suggestions always welcome! Someone suggested Supernatural in the comments. Thanks, Lostie!

OMG, I die. I can’t even tell you how much I love the two shows these women are a part of :’) (well, three actually, because I love ‘V’, too!)

How to Keep Fringe on the Air

This is off topic, but I know a lot of Losties are also Fringe fans, so this is still somewhat relevant.
You may have heard that Fringe is moving to Fridays in late January and that ratings this season have been less than spectacular. So if you are a fan of this show, spread the word, folks! Excellent is an understatement. It’s one of the few shows I’ve watched from the beginning, and one of the few shows in which each new season somehow tops the one before it. A million thumbs up from this Lostie!
